MAKING sure residents views are “heard” and “supported” is among the pledges made by a non-aligned independent councillor ahead of the elections in Southend.

Tricia Cowdrey, independent candidate for the Shoebury ward, has vowed to bring a “fresh perspective and a more inclusive approach”.

She said her key priorities are: “To work hard to protect our green spaces, such as the old Hinguar playing field.

“Make sure that residents are aware of any planning applications or other plans, making sure they are supported to have their views heard.

“To speak up for better quality housing in Shoeburyness Ward and work with housing providers to raise standards. I will fight for clearer local policies and campaign for change in planning law.

“To champion young people and work to ensure we invest in services to meet their needs, and work to improve work and training opportunities locally.

“I will keep a watchful eye on the development of the promised new health centre and the use of our ambulance station, to ensure the health needs of residents are met and health partners held to account.

“I will work with resident associations and other groups to rebuild community spirit and promote community action.

“A vote for an independent is a vote for the best interests of residents rather than party dogma.”
